Other Resources

Refugees are usually eligible for a variety of state and federal programs. A case manager at any of the above locations can help you access these resources. Or, you are welcome to try to access them on your own.

Medicaid: Refugee families with minor children (18-years-old or younger) can apply for Medicaid coverage through the state of Alabama.

Those families without minor children should contact Hazeza LeCroy at hazeza.lecroy@weinspirit.org for the Refugee Medical Assistance application, which is a special application for Medicaid coverage only available to refugees who do not have minor children.

Cash Assistance: Refugee families with minor children should apply for cash assistance through the state of Alabama’s Family Assistance program (applied through their local county office. Those who enroll in Family Assistance are eligible for some rental assistance through AOR; contact Hazeza LeCroy at hazeza.lecroy@weinspirit.org for an application.

Those who without minor children, or those who are denied Family Assistance, are eligible for Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) for the first twelve months after arrival, subject to meeting other eligibility requirements. Contact Hazeza LeCroy at hazeza.lecroy@weinspirit.org for an application.

Food Benefits: Refugees may apply for SNAP benefits (sometimes called “food stamps”) using the standard SNAP application. They should be prepared to provide their immigration documentation. SNAP can be applied for online or at their local county office.
